لَئِنif indeed عُدتُI return بَعدَafter اليَومِtoday إِنّيindeed I لَظالِمُsurely in the wrong
لَئِن عُدتُ بَعدَ اليَومِ إِنّي لَظالِمُ
سَأَصرِفُI shall turn نَفسيmyself حَيثُwhere تُبغىare sought المَكارِمُnoble deeds
سَأَصرِفُ نَفسي حَيثُ تُبغى المَكارِمُ
If I return after today, I shall surely be in the wrong.
If I return after today, I will be unjust
I shall turn myself toward where noble deeds are sought.
I will direct myself wherever virtues are sought
مَتىwhen يَظفَرُobtains الغاديthe morning visitor إِلَيكَto you بِحاجَةٍwith a need
مَتى يَظفَرُ الغادي إِلَيكَ بِحاجَةٍ
وَنِصفُكَwhile half of you مَحجوبٌhidden away وَنِصفُكَand half of you نائِمُasleep
وَنِصفُكَ مَحجوبٌ وَنِصفُكَ نائِمُ
When can one who visits you in the morning have his need met,
When will the one walking to you obtain a need
while half of you is hidden away and half of you is asleep?
While half of you is veiled and half of you is sleeping
