لا تَرقُدَنَّ لِعَينِكَ السَهَرُ

لا تَرقُدَنَّ لِعَينِكَ السَهَرُ

وَاِنظُر إِلى ما تَصنَعُ العِبَرُ

وَاِنظُر إِلى ما تَصنَعُ العِبَرُ

Do not sleep; let your eye keep vigil.

Do not sleep for your eyes' wakefulness

And look at what lessons bring about.

And look at what tears are doing

اُنظُر إِلى عِبَرٍ مُصَرَّفَةٍ

اُنظُر إِلى عِبَرٍ مُصَرَّفَةٍ

إِن كانَ يَنفَعُ عَينَكَ النَظَرُ

إِن كانَ يَنفَعُ عَينَكَ النَظَرُ

Look at lessons in their varied forms,

Look at flowing tears

If looking can benefit your eye.

If looking benefits your eye

وَإِذا سَأَلتَ فَلَم تَجِد أَحَداً

وَإِذا سَأَلتَ فَلَم تَجِد أَحَداً

فَسَلِ الزَمانَ فَعِندَهُ الخَبَرُ

فَسَلِ الزَمانَ فَعِندَهُ الخَبَرُ

And when you ask and find no one,

And if you ask and find no one

Then ask Time, for it has the news.

Ask time for it has the news

أَنتَ الَّذي لا شَيءَ تَملِكُهُ

أَنتَ الَّذي لا شَيءَ تَملِكُهُ

وَأَحَقُّ مِنكَ بِمالِكَ القَدَرُ

وَأَحَقُّ مِنكَ بِمالِكَ القَدَرُ

You are the one who owns nothing,

You who own nothing

And Fate has a greater claim to your wealth than you do.

And destiny owns what is yours more rightfully
