بَدَنيmy body ناحِلٌthin وَصَبريand my patience بَدينُstout
بَدَني ناحِلٌ وَصَبري بَدينُ
وَاِعتِزاميand my resolve ماضٍunwavering وَجِسميand my body حَسيرُweary
وَاِعتِزامي ماضٍ وَجِسمي حَسيرُ
My body is thin, and my patience stout.
My body is frail, my patience weak
And my resolve is unwavering, and my body weary.
My resolve remains, though my frame is meek
وَمِنَand from المَوتِdeath قَدalready سَلِمتُI have escaped وَلَكِنand yet
وَمِنَ المَوتِ قَد سَلِمتُ وَلَكِن
بَعدَafter هَذاthis إِلىto المَماتِdeath أَصيرُI shall go
بَعدَ هَذا إِلى المَماتِ أَصيرُ
And I have escaped death, and yet
Death I have eluded, but alas
after this, to death I shall go.
To the fate of all, I must soon pass

O my two dear friends, how can Time deceive me,
My friend, how can the days deceive me so
though I see through it and know it well?
When their guile I know, and their ways I know
اِسقِيانيgive me drink, you two مِنfrom قَبلِbefore أَنthat يَتَقَضّىcomes to an end

Give me drink before they come to an end—
Give me to drink, before all hope is gone
a hope I cherish and a short life.
Of life, though short, where dreams live on
