هَزَزتُكَI stirred you لاnot أَنّيbecause I وَجَدتُكَfound you ناسِياًforgetful
هَزَزتُكَ لا أَنّي وَجَدتُكَ ناسِياً
لِوَعدٍof a promise وَلاand not أَنيbecause I أَرَدتُwished التَقاضِياto claim what is owed
لِوَعدٍ وَلا أَني أَرَدتُ التَقاضِيا
I stirred you—not because I found you forgetful
I shook you not because I found you forgetful
of a promise, nor because I wished to claim my due;
Of a promise, nor because I wanted repayment,
وَلَكِنand yet وَجَدتُI found السَيفَthe sword عِندَupon انتِضائِهِits being drawn
وَلَكِن وَجَدتُ السَيفَ عِندَ انتِضائِهِ
إِلىof الهَزِّshaking مُحتاجاًin need وَإِنand even if كانَit is ماضِياsharp
إِلى الهَزِّ مُحتاجاً وَإِن كانَ ماضِيا
but I found the sword, when drawn,
But I found the sword, when roused,
in need of shaking, even though it is sharp.
In need of shaking, though it was sharp before.
