ثَوبُgarment مَنthe one who ماتَdied عَلىon وارِثِهِhis heir
ثَوبُ مَن ماتَ عَلى وارِثِهِ
وَعَلىand on مَنthe one who ماتَdied ثَوبُgarment مِنof مَدَرclay
وَعَلى مَن ماتَ ثَوبُ مِن مَدَر
The garment of the one who died is on his heir;
The clothes of one who died are for his heir
And on the one who died is a garment of clay.
While for him who died, clothes are of no avail
وَكَأَنَّand as though الشَيءَthe thing مِمّاof what قَدalready مَضىpassed
وَكَأَنَّ الشَيءَ مِمّا قَد مَضى
وَانقَضىand ended نَقرَةُa peck عُصفورٍa sparrow نَقَرpecked
وَانقَضى نَقرَةُ عُصفورٍ نَقَر
And it is as though a thing that has already passed
It's as if something that's passed and gone
And ended were a peck from a sparrow that pecked.
Were the pecking of a bird that pecked and flew away
