وأصدرَand sent away عمَّاfrom what شِئتَyou willed فيهمconcerning them وأورَداand brought in
The turns of fate obeyed you over the lives of your foes,
Fate obeyed you in the battles of enemies,
And sent them away and brought them in as you willed for them.
And did as you wished with them, leading and directing.
بعثتَyou sent أمامَahead of الجيشِthe army جيشَan army of مهابةٍawe
أقامَهُمُmade them rise فيin كُلِّevery أرضٍland واقعداand made them sit
You sent ahead of the army an army of awe,
You sent armies ahead full of awe,
That made them rise and sit in every land.
Who settled in every land, residing and encamping.

Your good fortunes are arrows: had you aimed them at al-Suha,
Your nobility, if you sought glory with it,
It would have been struck down despite the distance.
Would have a far destination as its goal.

You left the sword's survivors—the throng within its siege—
You left remnants of the sword surrounding their siege,
As fine ashes that the storm winds passed from one to another.
Ashes which the storms scattered as motes.

The reprieve carried them on a far-ranging course,
Procrastination influenced their situation to decline,
And the ample span of time blinded them to their sound judgment.
And the expanse of space blinded them from proper guidance.

It is the conquest that baffled those who composed long rajaz poems,
It is victory that eluded the one who prolonged contention,
And whose reach outstripped those who composed long odes.
And missed its goal, the one who prolonged the destination.

God decreed that the most fortunate of humankind should win it,
God ordained that the most fortunate of creation should attain it,
And so it was the Commander of the Faithful, Muhammad.
Thus it was the Prince of the Faithful, Muhammad.
