O Commander of the Faithful, and you upon whom
O Commander of the Faithful, and those who support Islam
the radiance of Islam shines resplendently!
Its excellent virtues radiate with splendor
وياand O ملكاًking أحنَّتyearned كُلُّevery أرضٍland
إلىtoward أرضٍa land أقامَhe dwelt بهاin it اشتياقاlongingly
And O king, every land has yearned
And O King, every land yearns
longingly for the land where he dwelt.
For the land in which you settled with longing
يحنُّyearns إليكَfor you يومٌa day غيرُnot آتٍyet come
ويشكُوand laments الذاهبُthe departing one الماضيthe bygone الفِراقاseparation
A day not yet come yearns for you,
A day that has not yet come yearns for you
and the departing, bygone day laments separation.
And the bygone past complains of separation
شكوتَyou fell ill فأيُّso which قلبٍheart غيرُnot شاكٍailing

You fell ill—what heart is not ailing?
You complained, so which heart is not aggrieved?
And what in life did not taste bitter?
And which life did not taste bitterness?

And but for recovery's mercy, we would have been
If it were not for the kindness of reverence, we would
burning fiercely in the fire of longing.
Burn in the fire of passion, burning fiercely
