جَلتwere too exalted عنfor المدحِpraise واستغنتand had no need فضائِلُهُhis virtues
جَلت عن المدحِ واستغنت فضائِلُهُ
والشمسُand the sun تكبرُis too great عنfor حليٍjewelry وعنand for حُلَلِrobes
والشمسُ تكبرُ عن حليٍ وعن حُلَلِ
His virtues transcend all praise and have no need of it;
His virtues are too exalted for praise and have no need of it.
The sun is too exalted for jewels or splendid robes.
And the sun is too great for jewelry and robes.
