How many a lord—and son of a lord—are among them,
And how many a chief and chief’s son is among them,
How many a chief, son of a chief, lies slain,
faithful to his neighbor’s covenant when he parts from him!
faithful to the neighbor’s covenant when he parts from him.
While at his neighbor’s threshold he complains!

The radiant cloud nearly thunders upon seeing
The bright white clouds almost thunder upon seeing
The murky cloud almost bursts in storm and rain,
the faces of Banū Laʾm, and its lightning bursts into pouring rain.
the faces of the sons of La’m, and their lightning streams down.
When sad Bani Lam regards their martyred trains.
