إِلَىwith ماwhat بِهِis in him ألاthat … not تضيءَshine الكَواكِبُthe stars
إِلَى ما بِهِ ألا تضيءَ الكَواكِبُ
A young man by whose light night travelers care not
A youth whose light leaves night travelers unconcerned,
whether the stars shine or do not.
given the radiance he bears, if the stars fail to shine.
لَهُfor him حاجِبٌa guard عَنagainst كُلِّevery أَمرٍdeed يَشينُهُdisgraces him
لَهُ حاجِبٌ عَن كُلِّ أَمرٍ يَشينُهُ
وَلَيسَand there is no لَهُfor him عَنagainst طالِبِa seeker of العُرفِkindness حاجِبُa gatekeeper
وَلَيسَ لَهُ عَن طالِبِ العُرفِ حاجِبُ
He has a guard against everything that might disgrace him,
He has a guard against every deed that would disgrace him,
but no guard against one who comes seeking generosity.
but no gatekeeper to bar a seeker of kindness.
