إِذا لَبِسوا عَمائِمَهُم ثَنَوها

إِذا لَبِسوا عَمائِمَهُم ثَنَوها

عَلى كَرَمٍ وَإِن سَفَروا أَناروا

عَلى كَرَمٍ وَإِن سَفَروا أَناروا

When they don their turbans, they wind them over nobility;

When they don their turbans, they wind them

and when they unveil their faces, they shine.

Over nobility; and if they bare their faces, they shine.

يَبيعُ وَيَشتَري لَهُم سِواهُم

يَبيعُ وَيَشتَري لَهُم سِواهُم

وَلَكِن بِالرِماحِ هُمُ تِجارُ

وَلَكِن بِالرِماحِ هُمُ تِجارُ

Others do their buying and selling for them,

Others sell and buy on their behalf,

but with spears, they themselves are merchants.

But with spears they are merchants.

إِذا ما كُنتَ جارَ بَني لُؤَيٍّ

إِذا ما كُنتَ جارَ بَني لُؤَيٍّ

فَأَنتَ لأكرم الثقَلَينِ جارُ

فَأَنتَ لأكرم الثقَلَينِ جارُ

If you are under the protection of the sons of Lu’ayy,

If you are a neighbor of the sons of Luʾayy,

you are the neighbor of the noblest of humankind and jinn.

Then you are neighbor to the noblest of humankind and jinn.
