By your life, it is a grievous loss,
By your life, this is a grievous loss,
Your life, what a tremendous calamity,
a calamity tremendous and grave.
and a calamity of grave and immense import.
And its affair, a momentous tragedy,
رزئناwe have lost منthe one whom صلاةblessings اللهGod تترىcome in succession

We have lost one—may God’s blessings follow unceasingly
We have lost one—may God's blessings come in succession
We've been struck with the loss of Allah's prayers upon him,
upon him whenever a pitch-black night grows dark,
upon him as long as pitch-black night falls,
Not a single night has shone since his demise.
وماand as long as أطتgroaned إلىtoward البيتthe House المطاياthe riding camels
وما أطت إلى البيت المطايا
وماand as long as طلعتrose علىover الأرضthe earth النجومthe stars
وما طلعت على الأرض النجوم
whenever the camels creak onward toward the Sacred House,
and as long as riding camels groan toward the House,
The mounts did not return to the homestead,
and whenever the stars rise over the earth.
and as long as stars rise over the earth.
Nor did the stars rise above the land.
لعمركby your life ماnot المصابthe loss بهof him خصوصprivate
لعمرك ما المصاب به خصوص

ولكن المصاب به عموم
By your life, this affliction touches no few alone;
By your life, the loss of him is no private loss,
Your life, the affliction is not exclusive,
the affliction is universal.
but the loss of him is shared by all.
Rather the affliction is common to all.

May the season’s first rain, pelting and profuse,
May the grave where Hammad now lies be watered
The meadows were watered with tears that poured,
water the grave where Hammad now lies.
by a heavy, streaming shower of autumn's first rains.
From eyes that rained like a cloudburst.

For in it glory and lofty honor have come to rest,
For glory and noble virtues now lie within it,
In it the glory has passed and noble deeds,
and in it might and ancient pride.
and within it lie honor and age-old pride.
In it the honor and ancient pride.

After his death, will any hero be summoned
After his death, can a noble hero be summoned
After his passing one called Hammam,
to face a crisis, or will it be said, “A noble man remains”?
to face a calamity, or can one say, 'A generous man remains'?
For affairs or said the generous remained.
كأناas though we يومon the day منعناهwe were denied him إليناto us

وقد فتكت بأنفسنا الهموم
The day one announced his death to us, we seemed—
It was as though, on the day he was denied to us,
As if the day we were deprived of him,
with sorrows ravaging our very souls—
when sorrows had already ravaged our souls,
Sorrows had ravaged our souls.

like bereaved mothers whose grief, throughout the nights,
we were bereaved mothers, whose sorrow through the nights—
Their cheeks torn by sorrow through the nights,
though long ages pass, remains abiding grief.
though time stretches on—is abiding sorrow.
Though the journey of time brings lasting gloom.

He was our springtime in every season of drought,
And he was our spring in every drought,
Our spring was in every abode,
when the clouds withheld their downpour.
when clouds were stingy with their downpours.
When the clouds hoarded their downpour.

Beautiful in deed, praised for his character—
His deeds were beautiful, his character praiseworthy;
Beautiful in action, praiseworthy in character,
generosity and noble disposition adorned all he did.
generosity and character adorn his deeds.
His deeds adorned with generosity and eminence.
