والشمس طالعة من كل شارقة
I saw him, and saw the full moon on the horizon,

And the sun rising from every eastern quarter,

والبحرand the sea معترضاًstretching across والغيثand the rain منبجساًgushing forth

And the sea stretching wide, and the rain gushing forth,
And the sea crossing over and the rain pouring down

With the scents of plants and wandering
ساسhe managed الأمورthe affairs بآراءwith judgments مهذبةrefined
ساس الأمور بآراء مهذبة
صوادرissuing forth بينbetween أفكارreflections وبادرةand spontaneous insight
صوادر بين أفكار وبادرة
He managed affairs with refined judgments,
The leader of things with refined opinions
Arising from reflection and spontaneous insight.
Intentions among thoughts and initiative

إلا وفل شباه كل حادثة
His fingertips never unsheathed a pen in a crisis
With fingers that have not moved against an incident without
Without its point blunting every calamity.
Resembling all aspects of every incident
فيin كلevery يومday لهfor him نعمىa bounty مجددةrenewed
في كل يوم له نعمى مجددة
ليستit is not إذاwhen طلعتit rose عناaway from us بآفلةsetting
ليست إذا طلعت عنا بآفلة
Every day brings a fresh bounty from him,
Every day he has new blessings
Which, once risen, never sets and leaves us.
When they appear they are not fading
ماnot زالceased يتبعhe follows up معروفاًa kindness بعارفةwith a favor
ما زال يتبع معروفاً بعارفة
جوداًout of generosity ويجهدand he exerts نفساًhimself فيin معاونتيhelping me
جوداً ويجهد نفساً في معاونتي
He never ceased following one kindness with another,
He still pursues good with knowledge

Until I saw the vicissitudes of time seeking refuge
Until I saw the turns of fate seeking refuge
In peace, after striking me and waging war against me.
