أَحَبَّتناour beloveds مَهلاًgently بِصَبٍّwith a lovesick one ملكتُمُyou have possessed
أَحَبَّتنا مَهلاً بِصَبٍّ ملكتُمُ
وَرِفقاًand gently بِقَلبٍwith a heart لُبُّهits core قَدalready أَذَبتُمُyou have melted
وَرِفقاً بِقَلبٍ لُبُّه قَد أَذَبتُمُ
Our beloved ones, go gently with a lover you have taken captive;
Our beloveds, be gentle with a lovesick one you have possessed;
and show tenderness to a heart whose very core you have melted.
And be kind to a heart whose core you have melted.
وَحَسبُكُمand enough for you هَذاthis الصُدودthe rejection فَإِنَّناfor indeed we
وَحَسبُكُم هَذا الصُدود فَإِنَّنا
نَرىwe see عَظماًgreat severity بِالصَدّin rejection وَالبينُand separation أَعظَمُmore grievous
نَرى عَظماً بِالصَدّ وَالبينُ أَعظَمُ
Let this shunning suffice you—for indeed we
And enough of this rejection from you, for we
deem rebuff grave, and separation graver still.
Find rejection grievous, and separation is graver still.
