اذهب إلى معهد التدريس واجتهد

تظفر بما شئت من فضل ومن رشد

Go to the teaching institute and apply yourself.

You will attain whatever excellence and guidance you desire.

وكن بني بحسن الخلق متصفاً

وقابل الدرس في جدو في جلد

And, my dear son, be endowed with good character.

And approach the lesson with earnestness and perseverance.

قد كنت في غفلة طالت براثنها

صالت عليّ زماناً صولة الاسد

I had been in heedlessness, whose claws had grown long;

It assailed me for a time with a lion's onslaught,

حتى اذا ما اراد الله يكشفها

عني حباني بنور منه متقد

Until, when God willed to dispel it

From me, He endowed me with a blazing light from Him.

فبين الحق لي هذا الصديق فلا

انسى له الود والاحسان للأبد

So this friend made the truth clear to me; I shall not

Forget his affection and kindness, ever.
