They said, “Tomorrow is the feast—what will you wear?”
They said tomorrow is Eid, what will you wear?

Poverty and patience are my garments; beneath them
Poverty and patience are my clothes underneath them
Is a heart that sees its Lord on feast days and Fridays.
A heart that sees its Lord on holidays and gatherings

It is best to meet the Beloved in the clothes
On the day of mutual visits is the robe he bestowed.
In which He divested you, on the day of visitation

والعيد ما دمت لي مرأى ومستمعا
All time is mourning for me if you are absent, O my hope;
Time for me is bereavement if you are absent, O my hope
And it is a feast as long as you remain for me to see and hear.
And celebration, as long as you are in my sight and hearing
