أريد دوام الذكر من فرط حبه

أريد دوام الذكر من فرط حبه

فيا عجباً من غيبة الذكر في الوجد

فيا عجباً من غيبة الذكر في الوجد

I desire unceasing remembrance, from the intensity of love for Him.

I desire constant remembrance out of overwhelming love for Him.

O wonder—that remembrance should vanish amid ecstasy!

So, how astonishing is the absence of remembrance in ecstasy!

وأعجب منه غيبة الوجد تارة

وأعجب منه غيبة الوجد تارة

وغيبة عين الذكر في القرب والبعد

وغيبة عين الذكر في القرب والبعد

More wondrous still: that ecstasy should vanish at times,

And more astonishing than that is the absence of ecstasy at times,

and the very essence of remembrance vanish in nearness and in distance.

And the absence of remembrance itself in nearness and distance.
