على فوت قلب فيك ضلت عزائمه
A secret communes with you, its presence risen within the heart,
A secret whose keeper has arisen in the heart communes with you
over a heart lost in you, whose firm resolves have gone astray.
over the loss of a heart whose resolves have gone astray in you.

وتعقد ما قد حل سري فتبرمه
Whenever I try to bind some matter of mine, you undo it;
When I seek to bind something of mine, you untie it,
and you bind what my secret has undone, twisting it fast.
and you bind what my secret has untied, then fasten it firmly.

إذا كنت خصماً بالذي أنت حاكمه
How can I devise a way to attain what I seek,
How, then, can I devise a way to what I seek,
when you are both my adversary in it and its judge?
when you are an adversary in the matter over which you are judge?
