Who will defend me against a heart whose lover has gone mad with love?
My excuse, from a heart that has become infatuated and obsessed
At times I disclose my love to it, and at times conceal it from it.
I have made my passion apparent, yet I conceal it at times

It has become like a moth, drawn toward burning ghada wood.
Tomorrow, like a butterfly provoked to anger
Its wanderer has hovered above it with a sigh of longing.
With the agony of passion swarming over it

And a beloved who went far away handed Time his reins,
And a love that has given time its dues and ended it
Believing, as he claimed, that Time would leave him in peace.
Yet it claims that time will make peace with it

Not knowing that God will dispute with it over this

The reckless man—and in the next world the Truth will crush him.
