الخب مغلوب على ما عنده

الخب مغلوب على ما عنده

من حكم نيته وسر صفاته

من حكم نيته وسر صفاته

The schemer is overpowered by what lies within him—

The wise is overcome by what he possesses

the sway of his intention and the secret of his traits.

Of the ruling of his intention and the secret of his attributes

متواضعا تلقاه في خلواته

متواضعا تلقاه في خلواته

متكبرا يختال في جلواته

متكبرا يختال في جلواته

You find him humble in his moments of solitude,

Humble you find him in his solitude

arrogant, strutting in his public appearances.

Arrogant he struts in his public displays

خالف هواه وينجلي لك سره

خالف هواه وينجلي لك سره

وهناك عامله بقيمة ذاته

وهناك عامله بقيمة ذاته

Oppose his desire, and his secret will become clear to you;

Go against his passions and his secret will become clear to you

and then treat him according to his own worth.

And there treat him according to the value of his essence
