رأي الحكماء للمولوه طبا

اذا ما الحب امرض منه قلبا

The sages found a remedy for the lovesick,

when love had sickened his heart.

فقالوا يا محبا صار صبا

عليك بحب من يرضاك حبا

So they said: O lover who has become lovesick,

love one who accepts you as a beloved.

وباعد من تقلبه الايادي

فكم خب كأخباب الاعادي

And shun one whom hands toss about;

for many a knave, like the knaves among foes,

يطوف مع العناد بكل نادي

تباعد عنه تظفر بالسداد

roams with obstinacy through every gathering.

Keep your distance from him, and you will attain sound judgment.

فإن فتى تقلبه الايادي

بعيد عن محافظة الوداد

For a young man whom hands toss about

is far from preserving affection.
