آه والهف المعالي بالكفن
The moon of glory—its lights have faded.
The moon of glory, its light has set
Ah, and alas for lofty virtues in the shroud!
Alas, the sublime flags shrouded in burial cloth
ولذاand therefore اظلمتgrew dark الدنياthe world وقدand indeed
ولذا اظلمت الدنيا وقد
زلزلتwas shaken بالناسwith the people منfrom فرطexcess of الحزنgrief
زلزلت بالناس من فرط الحزن
And so the world grew dark, and indeed
Thus the world was darkened, for
was shaken with its people by overwhelming grief.
People were shaken by intense grief
ونعتand mourned شيخاa shaykh كبيراgreat سيداa master
ونعت شيخا كبيرا سيدا
ملأfilled الاقطارthe lands بالصيتwith renown الحسنgood
ملأ الاقطار بالصيت الحسن
And mourned a great shaykh, a master,
Eulogizing a great, noble elder
who filled the lands with fine renown.
Whose excellent reputation filled the lands
هوhe فيin آلthe house of عليAli معرقof deep-rooted lineage
هو في آل علي معرق
ذوpossessing اتصالa connection بالحسينto Husayn والحسنand Hasan
ذو اتصال بالحسين والحسن
He is deeply rooted in the house of Ali,
He is of the family of Ali, a relative
with ties to Husayn and Hasan.
Connected to Hussein and Hasan
خالديKhalidi قرشيQurashi واصلspiritually realized
خالدي قرشي واصل
وعلىand with سرthe secret of المعاليlofty virtues مؤتمنentrusted
وعلى سر المعالي مؤتمن
Khalidi, Qurashi, spiritually realized,
Khalidi, Qurashi, of noble ancestry
and entrusted with the secret of lofty virtues.
And trusted with the secrets of sublimity
طلقdivorced الدنياthe world باخلاصwith sincerity وماand no
طلق الدنيا باخلاص وما
عندهwith him فيin القلبthe heart للدنياfor the world ثمنvalue
عنده في القلب للدنيا ثمن
He divorced the world sincerely, and no
Indifferent to the world with sincerity, his heart
value did the world hold within his heart.
Contained no worldly price
عاملdealt with اللهGod بصدقwith sincerity وقضىand fulfilled
عامل الله بصدق وقضى
نحبهhis appointed term بالامنin safety منfrom كلall الفتنtribulations
نحبه بالامن من كل الفتن
He dealt sincerely with God and fulfilled
He served God sincerely and passed judgment
his appointed term, safe from all tribulations.
We loved him, safe from all strife
هكذاsuch احبابthe beloved of ربيmy Lord جلexalted is He منas a
هكذا احباب ربي جل من
محسنbenefactor اتحفgraced قوماa people بالمننwith blessings
محسن اتحف قوما بالمنن
Such are my Lord's beloved—exalted is He as
Such are my Lord's beloveds, Exalted is He
a Benefactor who graced a people with blessings.
Who granted people favors and bounties
منهموamong them هذاthis الوليthe saint المرتضىthe chosen one
منهمو هذا الولي المرتضى
علويlofty الشانin station استاذmaster of الزمنthe age
علوي الشان استاذ الزمن
Among them is this saint, the chosen one,
Among them this desired master
lofty in station, master of the age.
Lofty in rank, teacher of the age
روحهhis spirit طاهرةpure حاضرةpresent
روحه طاهرة حاضرة
حينماwhenever يدعوهcalls upon him موثوقone bound by المحنafflictions
حينما يدعوه موثوق المحن
His spirit is pure and present
His soul pure, present
whenever one bound by afflictions calls upon him.
When the afflicted seeks him in distress
عارفa knower of God تاريخهhis chronogram حيliving فقلso say
عارف تاريخه حي فقل
رحمةmercy of اللهGod علىupon القطبthe spiritual Pole حسنHasan
رحمة الله على القطب حسن
A knower of God—his chronogram lives on; so say:
Knowing his history, alive, so say
God's mercy be upon the spiritual Pole, Hasan.
May God's mercy be upon the saint Hasan
