لمعت بوارق دولة الإرشاد

برحاب قطب الأوليا الصياد

The lightning flashes of guidance's dominion shone

within the courts of the saints' pole, al-Sayyad.

غوث الزمان أبي علي صاحب الس

ر الجلي وكوكب الإفراد

The age's succor, Abu Ali, bearer of the

manifest secret and star of singularity;

قطب الوجود سليل أشرف مرسل

صدر الإكابر حجة الأوتاد

the pole of existence, scion of the noblest Messenger,

foremost of the great, the proof of the spiritual Pegs;

علم الشيوخ وكنز كل فضيلةٍ

فحل الرجال خلاصة الأسياد

the banner of the shaykhs and treasury of every virtue,

the stallion among men, the quintessence of masters.

عظمت مناقبه وجلت رتبة

أحواله ونمت عن التعداد

His virtues grew great, and exalted was the rank

of his spiritual states, which increased beyond counting.

وبه انطوت أسرار غيب طلسمت

في كنزه مع نشأة الآحاد

And in him were enfolded mysteries of the unseen, sealed in talismans

within his treasury at the birth of individual beings.

وله انجلت أنوار كل خفية

من فيض والده الرسول الهادي

And for him the lights of every hidden thing shone clear,

from the outpouring of his forefather, the guiding Messenger.

فطغت بحار فيوضه وطمت فعم

مت بالندا غادي الورى والصادي

So the seas of his outpourings surged and overflowed, embracing

with bounty humankind's morning traveler and the thirsty.

فالجأ لدولة عزه يا صاح إن

خفت العدا وشماته الحساد

Seek refuge, then, in the dominion of his might, my friend, if

you fear enemies and the gloating of the envious.

فهو الغيور على الدخيل وناصر اللا

جي الذليل وملجأ القصاد

For he zealously protects the sanctuary-seeker and defends the

humble refugee, a refuge for those who seek him.

مولاي عز الدين أحمد هيكل ال

برهان كعبة جحفل الأمجاد

My master Izz al-Din Ahmad, the temple of

proof, the Kaaba of a host of illustrious men;

شبل الحسين ونجل موسى ال

كاظم الشهم الجليل وبضعة السجاد

Husayn's lion cub and the scion of Musa

al-Kazim, noble and majestic, and a part of al-Sajjad;

سبط الرفاعي قطب أقطاب الورى

أستاذ أهل الذكر والأوراد

al-Rifa‘i's grandson, the pole of humankind's poles,

master of the people of remembrance and devotional litanies.

قمر تسلسل من أجل رقا

ئق النور القديم اللامع الوقاد

A moon descended from the most exalted

subtleties of the ancient light, radiant and blazing.

أسد له أحيا الإله مريده

بعد الوفاة بصحبة الإنساد

A lion for whom God revived his disciple

after death, in the company of al-insad [unclear wording].

ولقد قضى العام الطويل بسجدة

فوق الثرى الثرى ببطاح أطيب وادي

He spent the long year in a single prostration

upon the earth—the earth—in the flats of the most pleasant valley.

وأفاق بعد مرور ذاك العام من

غيب السجود لحضرة الأشهاد

And after that year had passed, he awoke from

the trance of prostration into the presence of witnesses.

وببصرة صاد السباع بلفتة

ولوى ببأس شوكة الآساد

And in Basra he caught wild beasts with a glance,

and with his might subdued the lions' power.

وأتت له الأسماك تسبح من شرا

ع البحر تقصد فيضة الإمداد

And the fish came to him, swimming from

the sea's sail, seeking an outpouring of succor.

وعزيز مصر حين حاربه طوى

شأن العزيز فمات بالإنكاد

And when Egypt's Aziz fought him, he brought to an end

the Aziz's power, and he died in distress.

وبجرف هبت أنبع المولى له ال

ماء الزلال وفاض للوراد

And at Jurf Habt the Lord made spring forth for him

clear, sweet water, which overflowed for those who came to drink.

أخذ التفكر والتعبد ديدنا

وعلا الرجال بقوة استعداد

He made contemplation and worship his constant practice,

and surpassed men through the strength of his preparedness.

وأطال في اللَه الخضوع وغاب عن

غير وفارق فرقة الأضداد

He prolonged his submission to God and withdrew from

all else, parting from the company of adversaries.

وأنار محراب الجهاد بربه

ومحى الهوى معنى بخير جهاد

He illumined the prayer-niche of striving through his Lord,

and inwardly erased desire through the finest striving.

وأدار كأس الوصل للطلاب بال

عزم القوي وهمة وسداد

He passed the cup of union to the seekers, with

strong resolve, aspiration, and sound judgment.

ترك السوى وأباد أستار الهوى

فسرت لوامعه بكل بلاد

He abandoned all other than God and destroyed the veils of desire,

so his gleams spread through every land.

وبه التجا أهل الطريق وقد نجا

حزب السلوك به من الإبعاد

In him the people of the path took refuge, and saved was

the fellowship of wayfarers, through him, from exclusion.

فهو المغيث إذا الذميم سطا وجا

ر معاند واستل سيف معادي

For he is the rescuer when the vile one attacks and

a defiant foe oppresses and an enemy's sword is drawn.

وهو الهزبر المستعان بجاهه ال

عالي المنار على الزمان العادي

And he is the lion whose standing is sought for aid—

a lofty beacon against the hostile age.

شيخي وأستاذي وغاية ملطبي

وحمايتي ووقايتي وعمادي

My shaykh, my master, and the goal of my quest,

my protection, my safeguard, and my support;

ومحل آرابي وحامل حملتي

ومساعدي أبداً بكل مراد

the home of my desires and the bearer of my burden,

and my helper always in every aim.

جد إذا ضاق الخناق وجدته

نعم المجد لنصرة الأولاد

A grandfather whom, when the noose tightens, I find

an excellent striver in aiding his children.

وأب أبى سلطان دولة سره

إلا وصول بنيه للإسعاد

And a father whose secret's sovereign dominion refused

anything but his sons' attainment of happiness.

فخري بعزة مجده السامي الذرى

أن يفخر الأحفاد بالأجداد

My pride in the might of his glory, lofty in its summits,

is the pride grandchildren take in their grandfathers.

أرجو بفضل وصوله وأصوله

قطع البعاد ووصل حبل ودادي

I hope, through the grace of his attainment and his lineage,

to end separation and join the cord of my affection.

فلقد كلفت من الزمان وغبت عن

أيامه وحلاوة الأعياد

For I have been burdened by time and withdrawn from

its days and the sweetness of festivals.

ونسيت من همي وقلة همتي

وطني وأحبابي بذاك النادي

And from my sorrow and my failing resolve, I forgot

my homeland and my loved ones in that gathering place.

فعسى بجاه ابن الرفاعي أحمد الص

صياد يصلح بالرشاد فسادي

May, through the standing of al-Rifa‘i's son Ahmad

al-Sayyad, my corruption be set right through guidance.

وعساه يسعف بالرضى فلقد قضى

زمني علي ببعده المتمادي

May he aid me with favor, for judgment has been passed

against me by my time, with its relentless estrangement.

غوثاه يا صياد يا ابن السا

دة الأجواد آل السادة الأجواد

Help! O Sayyad, O son of the

generous masters, the family of generous masters!

أدرك بجدك لوعتي وارحم ضنى

حالي ولاحظني وفك قيادي

By your forefather, relieve my anguish and pity the wasting

of my condition; watch over me and loosen my bonds.

وعليك رضوان الإله ورحمة

تغشى ضريح حيطة الإرشاد

And upon you be God's good pleasure and mercy

enveloping the tomb of guidance's safeguard.

وصلاة رب العالمين وجوده

يهدي لجدك علة الإيجاد

And may the Lord of the worlds' blessing and bounty

be bestowed upon your forefather, the cause of creation,

وعلى بنيه وصحبه والتابعي

ن ذوي الهدى ما حن ليلاً حادي

and upon his sons, his companions, and the followers

possessed of guidance, as long as a camel-driver sings yearningly by night;

وعلى جهابذة الطريق وحزبهم

أين انتحوا بالغور والأنجاد

and upon the masters of the path and their fellowship,

wherever they head, in the lowlands and uplands.
