And bless the brief nights that passed in Matkin—

And livened nights gone by with wine's inebriation.

Nights we had in the shade of our master, who

Brings glory to Islam, truth, and faith.

Upholds honor for Islam, truth and religion.

رجال ومولاهم بقصد وتمكين

A lion of the line of al-Rifa‘i, the Succor, and a star of the

Hizbar son of Ghauth the Rufa'i, star of

Men, and their master in resolve and firm attainment.

Men and their patron with purpose and enablement.

أبو المجد صياد السباع فتى الوغى

إذا خاف في البيدا صدور السلاطين

Abu al-Majd, hunter of wild beasts, hero of battle,

Abu al-Majd, hunter of beasts, brave in fray,

When sultans’ hearts quailed in the wilderness.

When fear seizes chests of sultans in the land.

Abu al-Khayr, shaykh of the Levant and Yemen, who

Made manifest the honor of the illustrious, noble, and blessed.

Exalted glory of the West’s generous lions.

بسر فشته الأوليا في الدواوين

Of lofty station, he built up his family’s legacy

Ali Janab raised his family’s traces

Through a secret the saints disclosed in their writings.

By myst’ry diffused through saints’ scrolls.

مغيث إذا ضاق الخناق ومنجد

إذا ما اختبا الفرسان بين الصواوين

إذا ما اختبا الفرسان بين الصواوين

A rescuer when the noose tightens, and a helper

Refuge when straits constrict, rescuer

When the horsemen hide among the pavilions.

If knights stir between two battle lines.

ولي عريض الجاه شهم مكرم

غيور شديد الباس غوث المساكين

غيور شديد الباس غوث المساكين

A saint of vast prestige, gallant and honored,

Mine ally of vast renown, valiant,

Zealous, formidable in strength, the succor of the poor.

Passionate, aid of the indigent.

لقد خلع الأغيار بالصدق وانتحى

إلى طور سينا القرب من غير تلوين

Truly, with sincerity he cast off all besides God and turned

He stripped aggressors with sincerity and turned

To the Mount Sinai of nearness, without shifting states.

To Sinai's mount, drawn near without pretense.

فرق له معنى نسيم اللقا كما

له راق خمر الارتقا بالفناجين

له راق خمر الارتقا بالفناجين

So the meaning of the breeze of meeting grew subtle for him, just as

To him the scent of reunion has meaning, as

The wine of ascent in cups delighted him.

Does the draft of ascent in cups have savor.

وطابت له الأوقات باللَه فانطوى

به نشء سر الوقت والآن والحين

به نشء سر الوقت والآن والحين

And his moments grew sweet through God, so there was enfolded

Moments were sweetened for him by God, so he folded

In him the birth of the secret of time, the now, and the moment.

The text of time's secret, now and forever.

ودارت له في الكون أقداح عزةٍ

ودارت له في الكون أقداح عزةٍ

بلا قطعة تجري لنصب الموازين

بلا قطعة تجري لنصب الموازين

And cups of glory passed round for him throughout the cosmos,

For him the universe made rounds of honor’s wine

Flowing without a break until the scales are set up.

Ceaselessly, not to be spilled in scales' weighing.

فتى من بنى قوم كرام أماجد

فتى من بنى قوم كرام أماجد

محبتهم فرض على كل ذي الدين

محبتهم فرض على كل ذي الدين

A youth among the sons of a noble, illustrious people,

A youth of honorable, glorious folk,

Love for whom is a duty for every person of faith.

Whose love's incumbent on each man of faith.

إمام من السادات آل أئمة الهدى

إمام من السادات آل أئمة الهدى

وطيرق الاصطفا للمريدين

وطيرق الاصطفا للمريدين

An imam among the sayyids, of the house of the imams of guidance,

An Imam of the Sayyids, House of Guidance’s Imams,

And a path of election for the disciples.

And path of chosen ones for disciples.

سليل رسول اللَه وارث علمه

سليل رسول اللَه وارث علمه

وفي الوقت غوث خير هاد ومأمون

وفي الوقت غوث خير هاد ومأمون

A descendant of God’s Messenger, inheritor of his knowledge,

Scion of God’s Messenger, heir of his knowledge,

And in his time a succor, the best of guides, and a trusted one.

In his time, best refuge, guide and trustee.

أناديه ملهوف الفؤاد وليس لي

أناديه ملهوف الفؤاد وليس لي

سواه من الأعداء راع يحاميني

سواه من الأعداء راع يحاميني

I call to him, distressed at heart, and I have no

I call him, heart aflame, none but him

Guardian but him to shield me from my enemies.

Can defend me from enemies, tending me.

بلى هو ذخري والوسيلة والرجا

بلى هو ذخري والوسيلة والرجا

وحصني ومأمولي وعنوان تاميني

وحصني ومأمولي وعنوان تاميني

Yes, he is my treasure, my means of approach, and my hope,

Yes, he's my treasure, means, hope, fortress,

And my fortress, the one I hope for, and the emblem of my safety.

Prospect and warrant of safety.

عليه رضاء اللَه ما لاح بارق

عليه رضاء اللَه ما لاح بارق

وما نسم الغربي بإرجاء متكين

وما نسم الغربي بإرجاء متكين

May God’s favor be upon him as long as lightning gleams,

By God's grace while dawn gleams unclouded,

And as long as the west wind breathes through the reaches of Matkin.

And west wind blows, branishing enablement.
