To a presence where my watchful contemplation grew profound,

To Your Excellency's court, where my devotion grew intense.

حتى إذا وصلت أعتاب عزتها

تقبل الأرض عني فهي نائبتي

Until, when it reached the thresholds of that presence’s majesty,

Until when it reached the threshold of Your glory,

It would kiss the earth on my behalf, for it was my representative.

The earth would accept from me - it was my deputy.

And now it is the turn of bodily forms: I have come,

The presence of a lover absorbed in absence.

I have melted at once on meeting you, from ardent love;
