    I swear by the suppleness of your swaying waist,

    And by your cheek-down, revealing the green of myrtle,

    فرأته منبلجا عيون الناس

    And by the rising dawn that shone forth from your face,

    So people's eyes beheld it breaking bright;

    وعنيقك الاسنى من النبراس

    And by the gleam of pearls in your sweet, dusky-lipped little mouth,

    And by your little neck, more radiant than the lamp;

    And by the pleasant hours that passed for me near you,

    Which you followed with the coldness of a cruel heart:

    You have never left my sight, and remembrance of you remains

    My litany, which I repeat with every breath.
