نظمت بمن اهواه شعري زبرجدا

ودرا وياقوتا وسلسا وعسجدا

ودرا وياقوتا وسلسا وعسجدا

I strung my verse about the one I love as chrysolite,

I composed my poetry for the one I love as chrysolite,

and pearls, rubies, beaded strands, and gold.

Pearls, rubies, smooth and pure gems.

واخلصته مني فؤادا مهيما

واخلصته مني فؤادا مهيما

به لم يزل ودي الصميم مؤبدا

به لم يزل ودي الصميم مؤبدا

And I sincerely devoted to him a heart of my own, love-stricken

And I gave him my loving heart,

by him; my heartfelt love has remained everlasting.

Its love for him will always last.

ورحت على حلو الليالي ومرها

ورحت على حلو الليالي ومرها

به هائما بين الاخلاء والعدا

به هائما بين الاخلاء والعدا

And I went on through the sweetness of nights and their bitterness,

I spent sweet nights and bitter ones,

lost in love with him, among close friends and foes.

Roaming around, lost in thoughts of him.

اشبب فيه ذاهل الفكر حائرا

اشبب فيه ذاهل الفكر حائرا

ارى العمر الا في محبته سدى

ارى العمر الا في محبته سدى

I sing love verses about him, distracted in thought, bewildered;

Lost in thoughts of him, perplexed, wandering,

I see life as wasted except in loving him.

I see life without his love as vain.

لقد ضل فيّ الحاسدون لغيهم

لقد ضل فيّ الحاسدون لغيهم

واني على رغم الاعادي ابو الهدى

واني على رغم الاعادي ابو الهدى

Indeed, the envious have gone astray in judging me through their waywardness;

Those envious of me have gone astray,

and I, despite my foes, am indeed Abu al-Huda.

Yet I, despite my enemies, remain gentle and wise.
