ابداever بهاfor it لوeven if مسtouched باصرهاits sight العمىblindness
I shall surely torment the eye, without a thought
I shall not delight my eyes with an unthoughtful one
for it, ever—even if blindness touches its sight.
Never with her, even if blindness touched her sight

فيهاwith it بكتit wept بالدمعwith tears اوor فاضتit overflowed دماblood
And urge it to weep over the ruins, taking a risk
And urge her to shed tears of misfortunes
with it, whether it sheds tears or pours forth blood.
With them she wept with tears or overflowed with blood
ولأهجرنand I shall surely forsake منof الرقادsleep لذيذهits sweetness
اذwhen راحwent اصنافvarious kinds العواذلthe reprovers نوماasleep
And I shall surely forsake the sweetness of sleep
And I shall refrain from sweet slumber
when the various reprovers have gone to sleep.
When the songstresses went to sleep

So I shall wage war between my eye and slumber,
So I wage war between my eyes and the abode
until it becomes forbidden to the eyelids.
Until it becomes forbidden to return to the eyelids

منهاbecause of it عليّto me غداbecame الضياءthe light مطلسماshrouded in mystery
It cast me into the snares of enchantment;
She made me fall into the snares of passion
because of it, light became an enigma to me.
From which tomorrow the light was veiled from me

It led my heart to suffering with a glance;
She led my heart to sorrow with a glance
had it not looked, I would have been unharmed.
If she had not glanced, I would still be secure

It shed my blood, so I shall surely shed its tears,
She shed my blood, so I shall shed her tears
so the garden of the ruins may be seen embroidered with them.
To see the meadows of beauty speckled with dew
فأناso I الذيthe one who حنقاin anger اكررI repeat ظلمهاwronging it
وهيand it التيthe one that بدأتbegan فكانتand so it was اظلماmore unjust
So I am the one who, in anger, repeatedly wrongs it,
So I, who angrily repeat her injustice
but it was the one that began, and so was more unjust.
While she was the one who started, and was more unjust
