ارى الروح في اعتاب ذي النجف انطوت

بوجد خفي شأنه في الهوى جلي

بوجد خفي شأنه في الهوى جلي

I see the soul enfolded at the thresholds of the lord of Najaf,

I see the spirit at the threshold of the one with curled lock

With a hidden ecstasy whose nature is manifest in love.

In esoteric passion which in love is evident

يقول لها لبي اتضعت تذللا

يقول لها لبي اتضعت تذللا

لما الوجد والشوق المبرح تسألي

لما الوجد والشوق المبرح تسألي

My heart says to her: 'You have humbled yourself in submission;

It says to it my heart has humbled in humility

Why do you ask for ecstasy and agonizing longing?'

For what fervor and diffused yearning you ask

فقالت اجل وافت من النجف الصبا

فقالت اجل وافت من النجف الصبا

فطارت بارواح الكرام الى على

فطارت بارواح الكرام الى على

She said: 'Yes, the east wind came from Najaf,

So it said yes, it came from Najaf, the zephyr

Then flew with the souls of the noble to Ali.'

It flew with the souls of the generous to Ali
