تركت حبيبي القلب لا عن ملالة

وقلبي على جمر وطرفي له يبكي

I left my heart's beloved, not out of weariness.

I left my beloved, not out of boredom,

And my heart lies upon embers, and my eye weeps for him.

My heart is ablaze, and my eyes weep for him.

وما كان ذاك الترك مني لقصوة

وما كان ذاك الترك مني لقصوة

ولكن جنا ذنبا يوالي الى الترك

ولكن جنا ذنبا يوالي الى الترك

And that parting was not out of cruelty on my part.

That leaving was not out of cruelty,

But he committed a sin that led to parting.

But he committed a sin that led to the leaving.

اراد شريكا في المحبة بيننا

اراد شريكا في المحبة بيننا

وقد دنس الصدق المنزه بالشك

وقد دنس الصدق المنزه بالشك

He wanted a partner in the love between us.

He wanted a partner in the love between us,

And he had sullied untainted sincerity with doubt.

And he tainted the pure truth with doubt.

واني بفضل الله عد موحد

واني بفضل الله عد موحد

وايمان قلبي لا يميل الى الشرك

وايمان قلبي لا يميل الى الشرك

And by God's grace, I am [a servant] affirming His oneness.

By the grace of God, I am steadfast in monotheism,

And my heart's faith does not incline toward polytheism.

And the faith of my heart does not incline towards polytheism.
