انا ابن اناس بسمك الافتخار

سنا مجدهم كالنهار استنار

I am the son of a people at the height of pride.

The radiance of their glory shone like daylight.

صبرت ومن مثلي الاصطبار

الا قل لمن يطلب الافتخار

I have endured; endurance comes from one like me.

Now tell whoever seeks pride

يهجوي له قد طلبت المحالا

بعيد عليك المدى في الطلاب

By lampooning me: you have sought the impossible.

The goal lies far beyond you in your pursuit.

وهاجيك عندي بحرف يعاب

فنم في امان بسرب الكلاب

And whoever lampoons you, even with a word, is blameworthy in my eyes.

So sleep in safety among the pack of dogs.

نجا بك لؤمك منجى الذباب

حمته مقاديره ان ينالا

Your baseness saved you as a fly escapes.

Its decrees of fate protected it from being struck.
