لكل أمر تسول بابن عدنان

فذاك باب الرجا للأنس والجان

For every affair, plead through the son of Adnan.

For he is the gate of hope for humankind and jinn.

والجأ بأعتابه العليا فإن بها

حبل النجاة القاصي الدار والداني

And seek refuge at his lofty thresholds, for there lies

the cord of salvation for those dwelling far and near.

محمد الأرض محمود السماء أحي

د الكل أحمد أهل الجاه والشان

Muhammad on earth, Mahmud in heaven, Ahyad—

of all, Ahmad among those of rank and renown.

بحر المكارم سلطان الأكارم عي

ن الكائنات معين العاجز العاني

Ocean of noble virtues, sovereign of the noble, the very essence—

of all beings, helper of the helpless and afflicted.

لوح البراهين ختم المرسلين ملا

ذ الخاطئين مغيث المذنب الجاني

Tablet of proofs, seal of the messengers, refuge—

of those who err, rescuer of the sinful transgressor.

مصباح نور الهبى طلاسمه

حلف فجاء لنا في شكل إنسان

Lamp of the light of dust; his talismans

are a covenant; thus he came to us in human form.

أشتات أشرف أنواع الصفات به

تجمعت فهو مولى كل برهان

The scattered forms of the noblest attributes in him

were gathered; thus he is master of every proof.

طه بتعريف عليا شانه نزلت

وجاء بالكوثر التبتير للشاني

Ta Ha was revealed to proclaim his exalted rank,

and with Al-Kawthar came the cutting off of his hater.

بالجزء الأول من تفسير حكمته

حل المثاني وآي الذكر في الثاني

In the first part of the exposition of his wisdom,

he explained the oft-repeated verses, and the Reminder's verses in the second.

بحر المعارف من مكنون انبجس

عيونه بإشارات وفرقان

Ocean of spiritual knowledge: from hidden depths gushed forth

its springs, with allusions and discernment.

وجاء يذكر في الإنجيل مظهره

مع الثنا برموز بعد تبيان

And his manifestation came to be mentioned in the Gospel,

with praise, in symbols after clear exposition.

وفي الزبور وفي التوراة مدحته

مسطورة ولسان المدح رباني

And in the Psalms and in the Torah, his praise

is inscribed, and the language of praise is divine.

موسى وعيسى به لاذ وآدم مذ

به استجار نجا من أتم عصيان

Moses and Jesus sought refuge in him; and Adam, when

he sought his protection, was saved from utter disobedience.

والأنبياء به حطت بواحلها

لنيل قرب من المولى وإحسان

And the prophets brought their mounts to rest with him,

to gain nearness to the Lord and grace.

ما الكون إلاه إذ لولاه ما بنيت

أركانه وله قد شادها الباني

The cosmos is nothing but he; without him, they would not have been built—

its pillars, which the Builder raised for him.

سر الطريقة مصباح الحقيقة مف

تاح الشريعة مبدى كل عرفان

Secret of the Path, lamp of Reality, key—

to sacred law, revealer of all spiritual knowledge.

معراجه لذرى العليا بثم دنا

حاز التدلى فنعم الأقرب الداني

His ascent to the loftiest heights, through 'then he drew near':

he attained closer approach—how excellent the nearest, drawing nigh.

وحضرة القدس قد حفت لزورته

بكل معنى عجيب النسق نوراني

And the holy court was arrayed for his visit

with every luminous meaning, wondrously ordered.

لقاب قوسين أو أدنى دنا ولقد

رأى جناباً من الجبار رحماني

He drew within two bow-lengths, or nearer; and indeed

he beheld a merciful presence from the Compeller.

قد أسعفنه يد الحظ العظيم من ال

عهد القديم بإحسان ووصلان

The hand of mighty fortune aided him from the time of the

ancient covenant, with beneficence and communion.

واللَه يعصمك احتاطت بطلعته

للحفظ من كيد ذرى زور وبهتان

'And God will protect you' encircled his countenance,

shielding him from the schemes of towering falsehood and slander.

وحفه العسكر الغيبي بنور هدى

وجيش نصر وتوفيق وإيمان

And the unseen host surrounded him with the light of guidance,

and an army of victory, divine aid, and faith.

جلت جلالته عن وهم متقد

ونزهت ذاته الحسناء عن ثاني

His majesty is exalted beyond the most fervent imagination,

and his beautiful essence is above any counterpart.

مولى مدينة حسن في العمى عمرت

بحسن طرز وعنوان واتقان

Lord of a city of beauty, built in the primordial cloud,

with beautiful design, outward form, and perfection.

سلطان حضرة قدس ضمن حضرته

في كل زاويةٍ ملك سليماني

Sovereign of a holy presence; within his court,

in every corner lies a Solomonic kingdom.

باهت به الناس أملاك السما شرفاً

والأرض سامت ذرى العليا بعلوان

Through him, humankind vied with heaven's angels in honor,

and the earth attained the loftiest heights in exaltation.

بكل خط إلهي مدائحه

أتت وقد نقشت قدماً بقرآن

In every divine script his praises

appeared, inscribed long ago in the Quran.

وفي لغات جميع الخلق قد ذكرت

أوصافه فعلت عن وصف نقصان

And in the languages of all creation are recounted

his qualities, rising above any description of deficiency.

ما للمساكين حمال الذنوب حمى

سواه من هم ميزان ونيران

The poor, bearers of sins, have no sanctuary

but him, from dread of the Balance and the fires.

نعم هو الغيث إن حبل الرجا فصمت

عراه من غوث أنصار وأعوان

Yes, he is the rain when hope's rope is broken,

its bonds to the succor of supporters and helpers severed.

أتييه بذنوب لأعداد لها

وطيلسان الخطايا قد تغشاني

I come to him with sins beyond counting,

and the mantle of transgressions has enveloped me.

وجهل عاقبة الأحوال أضحكني

وعلم عرضي على الديان أبكاني

Ignorance of how things end made me laugh,

and knowledge of my being brought before the Judge made me weep.

وسوء سيري إلى الأهوال قربني

وقبح فعلى عن الآمال أقصاني

And my evil course brought me close to terrors,

and the ugliness of my conduct drove me far from my hopes.

جيش المعاصي عن الأوطان شتتني

حتى بقيت فريداً دون خلاني

The army of sins scattered me far from my homelands,

until I remained alone, without my friends.

وهاتف الغفلة استولى عليَّ فكم

بسر ذاتي ناداني وناجاني

And the voice of heedlessness mastered me; how often

it called and whispered to me in the secret of my being.

وها أنا بين آلام معقدةٍ

من التحسر في قلبي وأحزان

And here I am amid tangled pains,

of regret in my heart, and sorrows.

وكل آن لدينا غير دائمة

موثوق هم بلا أه وإخوان

And every moment we have is fleeting;

I am bound by worry, with no family or brothers.

ما تلك واللَه إلا لقمة حصلت

وخرقة سترت ذا القالب الفاني

All that, by God, is only a morsel gained,

and a rag that covered this mortal frame.

مولاي يا روح جسم الأنبياء أغث

فقد وهت حملتي والخطب أعياني

My master, O spirit of the body of the prophets, come to my aid!

For my effort has faltered, and calamity has exhausted me.

بسر قربك من مولاك جد كرماً

بوصل حبلي فهذا القطع أضناني

By the secret of your nearness to your Lord, bestow your bounty,

joining my cord, for this severance has wasted me.

وارحم غريباً ضعيفاً لاذ فيك فما

إلاك أرجو لعزي بين أقراني

And have mercy on a weak stranger who sought refuge in you; for none

but you do I hope in for honor among my peers.

ضاقت مذاهب فكري والهموم دهت

صبري وراهص هذا الكرب أفناني

My thought's pathways have narrowed, and cares have assailed

my patience; the crushing weight of this anguish has undone me.

وقد أخذتك لي حصناً الوذ به

من كل خوفٍ بإيمان وإذعان

And I have taken you as a fortress in which I seek shelter

from every fear, with faith and submission.

فاعطف علي وقل أصبحت في دركي

بالأمن من ضنك أزمان وسلطان

So be kind to me, and say, 'You are now under my protection,

safe from the harshness of the times and of authority.'

وأقلب غواية قلبي للهداية بال

لطف الخفي وتمم نور عرفاني

And turn my heart's misguidance into guidance through the

hidden kindness, and perfect the light of my spiritual knowledge.

وأقبل خضوعي في أعتاب عزك واذ

كرني بخير وشيد فيك أركاني

And accept my submission at the thresholds of your glory, and remember

me kindly, and raise my pillars firm in you.

وارحم أبي وبنى عمى وطائفتي

وأهل بيتي وأولادي وجيراني

And have mercy on my father, my paternal cousins, and my community,

and my household, my children, and my neighbors.

واقبل على حزب إخواني بمرحمةٍ

ورد بالمدد القدسي خواني

And turn toward the fellowship of my brothers with mercy,

and come to my table with holy aid.

فقد تركت بنى الدنيا وجئت إلى

أبواب فضلك في عبي ونقصاني

For I have left the children of this world and come to

the gates of your bounty, with my fault and deficiency.

عرفتك الرحمة العظمى وبابك با

ب اللَه فابدل لكنز الربح خسراني

I have known you as the greatest mercy, and your gate is the gate—

of God; so exchange my loss for a treasure of gain.

صلى عليك إله العرش ما ظهرت

أنوار مجدك في عجم وعربان

May the God of the Throne bless you for as long as there appear

the lights of your glory among non-Arabs and Arabs,

وآلك الغر أهل البيت سادتنا

والصحب أعظم قادات وشجعان

and your radiant family, the People of the House, our masters,

and your companions, the greatest leaders and warriors,

والتابعين لهم ما قلت ملتجئا

لكل أمر توسل بابن عدنان

and their followers, whenever I say, seeking refuge:

'For every affair, seek intercession through the son of Adnan.'
