والروح تاخذها من ذكره الفكر
O you with whom I am enraptured—for whom my heart has taken wing,
O you who have enraptured me, to whom my heart has flown,
and at the thought of him, remembrance carries my soul away.
And thoughts seize my soul through remembrance of him.

من شيمتي وبكلي النار تستعر
I yearn for you, yet I have never left my station;
I yearn for you, yet have not left my station;
it is among my traits, while through all of me the fire blazes.
Such is my nature, and fire blazes throughout my being.

Were it not for your radiance, whose lightning flashes gleam,
Were it not for your radiance, whose flashes have shone forth,
I would take no delight in seeing the moon within its celestial mansion.
I would find no joy in seeing the moon in its celestial mansion.

Someone said to me, “How often you have been alone with him!
And someone said to me, “How often you have been alone with him!
Take your share, so that the sparks may die down.”
So take your share, that the sparks may die down.”

I said, “Leave me be: the possessor of pleasures faces an aftermath—
So I said, “Leave me be; these pleasures have an aftermath:
there is no good in a pleasure followed by Saqar.”
There is no good in a pleasure followed by Saqar.”
