Look upon this poor soul with sustaining grace,

Look upon the needy one with succor,

O Messenger of the One, the One and Only.

يا عريض الجاه يا سند ال

عاجز المحتاج للنسد

عاجز المحتاج للنسد

O you of vast prestige, O support of the—

O vast in standing, O support of the

helpless needy one who longs for support.

يا سراج الرسل يا قمر ال

يا سراج الرسل يا قمر ال

أنبيا يا كوكب الرشد

أنبيا يا كوكب الرشد

O lamp of the messengers, O moon of the—

O leader of the messengers, O

أنت ذخري والغياث إذا

ضاق رحبي أو وهى جلدي

You are my treasure and my succor whenever

my spacious world grows narrow or my strength gives way.

قد لي سيف البلا كبدي

هم هذا الدهر والنكد

I seek refuge at the gate of your sanctuary from

the cares and miseries of this age,

ومن الآلام والمحن الده

م والأعداء والعدد

and from pains and ordeals, the over—

whelming ones, and from enemies and their multitudes.

بلطيف الحل للعقد

O noblest of all beings, come to my aid

O most exalted of all beings, bring relief

by gently untying these knots.

نقطها عن حيطة العدد

For my sins have overflowed and grown;

their tally has passed all bounds of number.

ولهذا خانني زمني

ودهتني عصبة الحسد

And for this, my fortune has betrayed me,

and the band of envy has assailed me.

ودموعي للمصائب قد

أغرقت واحسرتي جسدي

My tears, for all these calamities, have

drowned—alas for my sorrow—my body.

My cares have weakened all my resolve;

so shelter me—you are my reliance.

O father of al-Zahrāʾ, O hope of the—

hopeful, O proof of the Eternal Refuge.

يا طويل الباع يا أسد ال

غيب يا علامة الأبد

غيب يا علامة الأبد

O far-reaching one, O lion of the—

O long of reach, O lion of the

Unseen, O sign for all eternity.

يا كتاباً كنز حكمته

يا كتاباً كنز حكمته

قد خفى عن طارق الرصد

قد خفى عن طارق الرصد

O Book whose wisdom is a treasure

O book, the treasure of whose wisdom

hidden from the seeker who keeps watch.

has been hidden from those who come to observe.

وبه الأسرار قد طويت

وبه الأسرار قد طويت

بين منحل ومنعقد

بين منحل ومنعقد

Within him the mysteries have been folded,

Within it the secrets have been enfolded,

some unbound and some knotted.

فعلاً في شان دولته

عن لب عالٍ وعن ولد

Truly, the stature of his dominion rises

Indeed, in the majesty of his dominion,

beyond lofty intellect and offspring.

كل بحر عائم الزبد

He is a sea within whose essence lies

دونه للناس من أحد

Neither in this world nor in its rival, the Hereafter,

ذاك باب اللَه باب رجا

كل ملهوفٍ ومعتضد

The very essence of all existence, a refuge

for the fearful one who calls: Be my support!

جئت أرجو منك مديد

لا تضيعني وخذ بيدي

I have come seeking sustaining grace from you;

I have come hoping for lasting aid from you.

رحمة اللَه التي وسعت

رحمة اللَه التي وسعت

كل شيءٍ خير معتقدي

كل شيءٍ خير معتقدي

You are the mercy of God that has embraced

God's mercy, which has encompassed

all things—the choicest article of my faith.

نقشت في هيكل الأمد

نقشت في هيكل الأمد

A tablet of gnosis, its subtleties

A tablet of spiritual knowledge, whose subtleties

engraved upon the frame of eternity.

وصراط عنده قضيت

وصراط عنده قضيت

بسلوك عدة المدد

بسلوك عدة المدد

And along his path I have fulfilled

And a path where I have spent

the traversing of many appointed spans.

فانطوى في ذيل ساحته

شمخ هام الفيل والأسد

شمخ هام الفيل والأسد

Beneath the hem of his court were folded

So within the hem of his court were folded

the lofty heads of elephants and lions.

ني بأثواب العنا الجدد

In him I sought refuge, while sins had clothed—

ومقلة تجري من الكمد

To his exalted height I fled, while I had

ورجائي أن يمن علي

ذلتي بالعيش ذي الرغد

My hope is that he will favor me,

despite my lowliness, with a life of ease,

وبأنواع القبول إذا

جئت في فعل لدي ردى

and with every kind of acceptance when

I come bearing a deed of mine that is vile;

I come with a deed that spells ruin for me,

وبعطف فيه تحصل لي

نفحة الباري بخير يد

and with compassion through which I may receive

and with compassion through which there comes to me

a breath from the Creator, through the best of hands;

a breath from the Creator through the best of hands,

وبفضل فيض نعمته

وبفضل فيض نعمته

فيه تعلو للسما عمدي

فيه تعلو للسما عمدي

and through the bounty of his grace’s overflow,

and through the bounty of his overflowing blessing,

through him my pillars rise toward heaven;

through him my pillars rise to the sky,

وبلطف جيش دولته

وبلطف جيش دولته

قاتل من قصده نكدي

قاتل من قصده نكدي

and by the gentle might of his dominion’s host—

and with the grace of his dominion's army,

fight whoever means me misery;

slayer of whoever seeks my misery,

وبإحسان حقيقته

وبإحسان حقيقته

كفها بالمكرمات ندى

كفها بالمكرمات ندى

and by the beneficence of his true essence,

and with the beneficence of his true essence,

whose palm is dewy with noble gifts.

وصلاة اللَه جاريةٌ

من مدار الرحمة الأبدي

May God’s blessings flow forever,

And may God's blessing flow

from the orbit of eternal mercy,

وسلام مسك وارده

وسلام مسك وارده

وارد من حضرة المدد

وارد من حضرة المدد

and peace whose arriving fragrance is musk,

and peace, whose influx is musk,

coming from the Presence of sustaining grace,

arriving from the presence of succor,

upon God’s beloved Aḥmad, the best—

and upon the House, our noble lords,

and to the Household, our masters,

and the Companions, those lion-hearted lords.
