الحمد لله لي من عترتي قمر

ما زال في برج هام السعد طالعه

Praise be to God: among my kin I have a moon.

His ascendant has ever dwelt in the loftiest mansion of good fortune.

كأسمه حسن الاخلاق جمله

برتبة الرفعة الوفرى تواضعه

Like his name, he is fair in character; he is adorned

With the fullest measure of eminence by his humility.

وزانه كرم جم ومنطقه

يكاد يعشق منه اللفظ سامعه

Abundant generosity adorns him; and his speech—

Its hearer all but falls in love with his words.

وحكمة وكمال صين في ادب

قد لاح من قبة العرفان لامعه

And wisdom, and perfection preserved in refinement,

Whose radiance has shone from the dome of gnosis.

وازدان بالدين والتقوى فقام له

عز بتمداحه عجت طلائعه

And he was adorned with faith and piety; so there arose for him

A glory whose vanguards clamored in his praise.

يثنى عليه رعاه الله من امم

والدهر تصغى لما يثنى مسامعه

He is praised by nations—may God guard him—

And Time’s ears listen intently to the praise.

ما حطه طيش خبل وهو عن مدد

عزم الرفاعي للعلياء رافعه

No mad recklessness has brought him low; through aid,

Al-Rifa‘i’s resolve raises him to the heights.
