وقال لحاني عليه العذول

وقال لحاني عليه العذول

فقلت تأود هيامي لذا

فقلت تأود هيامي لذا

And the reproacher spoke, blaming me for him.

So I said, “My passion has swayed toward this one:

يجيءُ الصباح باضوائه

يجيءُ الصباح باضوائه

ويأت النسيم بذاك الشذا

ويأت النسيم بذاك الشذا

morning comes with his radiance,

and the breeze comes with that fragrance.”

فقال يذيبك تعذيبه

فقال يذيبك تعذيبه

ولم يدر ذو العذل اني كذا

ولم يدر ذو العذل اني كذا

Then he said, “His torment melts you.”

Yet the reproacher did not know that I was so.
