حجاب الخطب أن شدت عراه

حجاب الخطب أن شدت عراه

وضاق الأمر وانقطع الرجاء

وضاق الأمر وانقطع الرجاء

The shield against calamity, when calamity’s bonds draw tight,

The shield against calamity, should its bonds be drawn tight

and circumstances close in and hope is cut off,

And matters grow dire and hope be cut off,

فباب محمد باب الأماني

فباب محمد باب الأماني

إذا ما الود زحزح والإخاء

إذا ما الود زحزح والإخاء

is Muhammad’s gate—the gate of all hopes—

Is Muhammad's door—the door of wishes—

when affection and brotherhood are thrust aside.

When affection and brotherhood are pushed aside.

له الجاه العريض وكل آن

له الجاه العريض وكل آن

بدولته تلوذ الأنبياء

بدولته تلوذ الأنبياء

His is vast, far-reaching standing; at every moment

His standing is vast, and at every moment

the prophets seek refuge within his dominion.

The prophets seek refuge in his dominion.

حبيب لا يرد له مراد

حبيب لا يرد له مراد

ويدفع في وسيلته القضاء

ويدفع في وسيلته القضاء

A beloved whose wish is never refused,

A beloved whose wish is never refused,

and through his mediation the decree is averted.

And through his intercession the divine decree is averted.

له ثوب النبوة قد تدلى

له ثوب النبوة قد تدلى

وآدم في الخفا طين وماء

وآدم في الخفا طين وماء

For him the robe of prophethood had already descended,

The robe of prophethood had already descended upon him,

while Adam, in the hidden realm, was clay and water.

While Adam, still unseen, was clay and water.
