اقبح اطوار الكرام العقوق

وعيب آل الآل جحدا الحقوق

The ugliest trait of the noble is ingratitude.

And denying rights disgraces the Household’s kin.

وكيف يرضى هاشمي بان

يبهت من لفته وهو العروق

How can a Hashimite consent

هنالك النخوة تعلي الذي

لبيته في ذلك البيت سوق

There, chivalry elevates the one

Whose house has standing within that House.

عفوا فانا اليوم شمنا الوفا

اعز من خلص بيض الانوق

Forgive me: today we have found fidelity

Rarer than the purest eggs of the Egyptian vulture.

هات امحق العيب الذي قد مضى

فالعتم قد يمحوه ضوء الشروق

Come, erase the fault that has already passed,

For sunrise’s light may wipe away the darkness.

وانهض ايا خلاه من غفلة

فهذه الدنيا خيال طلوق

And rise, dear friend, from heedlessness,

For this world is a free-roaming phantom.

وافزع الى الله بنصر امرءٍ

من قومك لزهر صديق صدوق

And seek refuge in God by supporting a man

Of your [radiant?] people, a true and faithful friend.

حب امير المؤمنين انطوى

في سره رغم صنوف المروق

Love for the Commander of the Faithful lies enfolded

In his innermost heart, despite the many forms of apostasy.

كالجبل الابلن ما هزه

من زمر الحساد هذا العوق

Like a mountain [epithet unclear], he was not shaken

By this hindrance from the bands of the envious.

فحقه حق مصان الحمى

وانما باطلهم في زهوق

For his claim is just, its sanctuary inviolate,

While their falsehood is but passing away.

وذا جوابي لك عن كل ما

كتبت او قلت فكن ذا وثوق

And this is my answer to you concerning all that

You wrote or said; so rest assured.

نفثة مصدور وكم مرة

درر وكام الغيث بعد البروق
