فككت بجاه خير الخلق عقداً

به قد أذهل الباغون فكري

به قد أذهل الباغون فكري

Through the rank of creation’s best, I loosed a knot

I untied a knot through the standing of the best of creation,

with which the oppressors had left my mind bewildered.

with which the wrongdoers had bewildered my mind.

وفي مدد الرسول كشفت كربا

وفي مدد الرسول كشفت كربا

له قد ضاق بين الناس صدري

له قد ضاق بين الناس صدري

And through the Messenger’s succor I dispelled a distress

And through the Messenger's aid, I dispelled an anguish

that had constricted my breast among the people.

because of which my breast had tightened among the people.

وبالجاه العريض دفعت هما

وبالجاه العريض دفعت هما

بدهشته تناقل جمل ظهري

بدهشته تناقل جمل ظهري

Through his vast spiritual rank I drove away a care

And through his vast standing, I warded off a worry

whose shock had set the whole frame of my back convulsing.

whose bewildering effect made the camel of my back sway.

وبالسر الإلهي مال نحوي

وبالسر الإلهي مال نحوي

بخير من لوى نحوي بغدر

بخير من لوى نحوي بغدر

Through the divine secret, there inclined toward me

And through the divine mystery, he inclined toward me

with kindness one who had dealt crookedly with me in treachery.

with kindness—he who had turned toward me in treachery.

وها أنا قد وقعت بباب طه

وها أنا قد وقعت بباب طه

وقد ناجيته بلسان سري

وقد ناجيته بلسان سري

And here I am, cast down at Taha’s door;

And here I am: I have fallen at Ta-Ha's door,

I have whispered to him in my secret tongue.

and have communed with him in the tongue of my innermost self.

وجئت مع الخضوع بعرض حالي

وجئت مع الخضوع بعرض حالي

له ورجعت عن زيد وعمر

له ورجعت عن زيد وعمر

I came in humility to present my condition

And I came in humility, presenting my condition

to him, and turned away from Zayd and Amr.

فحاشا إن أرد بلا مرادي

فحاشا إن أرد بلا مرادي

ومن باب الإله طلبت جبري

ومن باب الإله طلبت جبري

Far be it that I be sent back with my desire unfulfilled;

Far be it that I should be turned away without what I seek!

from the gate of God I sought the mending of my brokenness.

And from God's door I sought my restoration.

عليه اللَه صلى كل آن

عليه اللَه صلى كل آن

كما يرضى به من غير حصر

كما يرضى به من غير حصر

May God bless him at every moment,

May God send blessings upon him at every moment,

in a measure pleasing to Him, beyond all count,

as pleases Him, without limit,

وأصحاب وأتباع وآل

وأصحاب وأتباع وآل

به فازوا برؤية ليل قدر

به فازوا برؤية ليل قدر

and his Companions, followers, and family—

and upon his companions, followers, and family.

through him they attained the vision of the Night of Power.

Through him they attained the vision of the Night of Decree.

به وبهم أروم وصول حبلي

به وبهم أروم وصول حبلي

بمقصودي وأطلب نجح أمري

بمقصودي وأطلب نجح أمري

Through him and them, I hope that my cord may reach

Through him and through them, I seek to have my cord reach

my sought-for goal, and I seek success for my affair.

my goal, and I seek success in my undertaking.

وأسأل من إله العرش فتحاً

وأسأل من إله العرش فتحاً

قريباً فيهم وبأهل بدر

قريباً فيهم وبأهل بدر

And I ask the God of the Throne for an opening,

And I ask the God of the Throne for an opening,

near at hand, through them and through the people of Badr.
