يا غزالا نوعه نوع اسد
صنعthe handiwork of ربيmy Lord قلsay هوHe اللهGod احدOne
صنع ربي قل هو الله احد
O gazelle whose kind is the kind of a lion!
My Lord's handiwork—say: 'He is God, the One.'
يرتجيhe hopes طوراat times ويخشىand he fears فطرةby instinct
يرتجي طورا ويخشى فطرة
ياO لكنزwhat a treasure عنهfrom it ماnot انحلwas undone الرصدthe guarding spell
يا لكنز عنه ما انحل الرصد
He hopes at times and fears by instinct.
O what a treasure, whose guarding spell has not been broken!
مرhe passed by ظبياas a gazelle ربربياof a gazelle herd لوif رأىhe saw
مر ظبيا ربربيا لو رأى
طرفهhis gaze الفتاكthe deadly ابليسIblis سجدhe prostrated himself
طرفه الفتاك ابليس سجد
He passed by, a gazelle of the herd; had he seen
his deadly gaze, Iblis would have prostrated himself.
وجلاand he revealed خداa cheek لكسرىto Kisra لوif بداit appeared
وجلا خدا لكسرى لو بدا
هجرhe forsook النارthe fire وذاand this الخدthe cheek عبدhe worshipped
هجر النار وذا الخد عبد
And he revealed a cheek—had it appeared to Kisra,
he would have forsaken fire and worshipped this cheek.
وسطاand he pounced ليثاas a lion فقلناso we said خشيةin fear
وسطا ليثا فقلنا خشية
ياO عليAli ياO اسدlion of اللهGod المددhelp!
يا علي يا اسد الله المدد
And he pounced as a lion, so we said in fear:
O Ali, O lion of God—help!
