لي حبيب ذو جمال مفرد

وبحكم الهجر للعشاق شذ

وبحكم الهجر للعشاق شذ

I have a beloved of singular beauty,

I have a beloved of peerless beauty.

And under the law of forsaking lovers, he stands apart.

And in decreeing separation for lovers, he stands apart.

هو فذ في معاني حسنه

هو فذ في معاني حسنه

وانا فيه بطور الوجد فذ

وانا فيه بطور الوجد فذ

He is peerless in the meanings of his beauty,

He is peerless in the qualities of his beauty.

And I, in my ecstasy over him, am peerless too.

And I, in my state of rapture for him, am peerless.

وعجيب ما سقاني مر كأ

وعجيب ما سقاني مر كأ

س بتعذيبي به الا ولذ

س بتعذيبي به الا ولذ

How strange—never did he make me drink the bitterness of a cu—

And how strange: whenever he gave me a bitter cup

—p, tormenting me with it, without taking delight.

To torment me with, it tasted sweet.

كم رمى القلب بسهم طرفه

كم رمى القلب بسهم طرفه

فمضى في القلب يسري ونفذ

فمضى في القلب يسري ونفذ

How often he shot the heart with the arrow of his glance;

How often he shot the heart with the arrow of his glance!

Then through the heart it coursed, and passed clean through.

So it went coursing through the heart and pierced it.

واغتصاباً اخذ القلب له

واغتصاباً اخذ القلب له

بارك الله له فيما اخذ

بارك الله له فيما اخذ

And by sheer force he took the heart for his own—

And by force he took the heart for himself.

May God grant him blessing in what he took.

May God bless him in what he has taken.
