I stretched the hands of my innermost heart toward you,

I stretched toward you the hands of my heart,

but by delaying, you cut them off from yourself.

but you severed them from yourself through delay.

Did you not know that the life of lovesick longing

Did you not know that the life of ardent longing

is union with the beloved when least expected?

is union with the beloved, unawares?
