آه والوعتي لفقد الاحبه
قدindeed كوتنيhas seared me للبعدbecause of separation نارfire المحبهlove
قد كوتني للبعد نار المحبه
Ah! My anguish at the loss of loved ones!
Oh, my heart grieves for the loss of loved ones
The fire of love has seared me because of separation.
Who have left me burning with love's fire
لوعةanguish الوجدpassionate longing احجتkindled جمرembers وجديmy longing
لوعة الوجد احجت جمر وجدي
فمتىwhen, then الحظfortune باللقاto reunion يتنبهawakens
فمتى الحظ باللقا يتنبه
The anguish of longing has kindled the embers of my longing.
The agony of passion has stoked embers in my soul
When, then, will fortune awaken to reunion?
When will fortune allow us to reunite?
حبةa seed الاصطلامannihilating ecstasy فيهمfor them اقامتhas brought forth
حبة الاصطلام فيهم اقامت
فيin فؤاديmy heart بالوجدthrough longing سبعينseventy حبهseed
في فؤادي بالوجد سبعين حبه
A seed of annihilating ecstasy for them has brought forth
The people I yearn for have settled
In my heart, through longing, seventy seeds.
Seventy loves in the midst of my heart
لاdo not تلومواblame (you all) انif ذبتI melted شوقاwith longing اليهمfor them
لا تلوموا ان ذبت شوقا اليهم
أيwhat حسبnoble standing (unclear here) يرضىwould consent يفارقto part from حبهhis beloved
أي حسب يرضى يفارق حبه
Do not blame me if I melt with longing for them.
Do not blame me for melting with longing for them
What man of honor would consent to part from his beloved?
What soul could be content to abandon its love?
ويقولand says الخليthe carefree one اصبرbe patient اوor اكتمconceal
ويقول الخلي اصبر او اكتم
زلhe erred كيفhow الولهانthe lovesick one يكتمconceals حبهhis love
زل كيف الولهان يكتم حبه
And the carefree one says, “Be patient, or conceal it.”
The friend says, "Be patient or keep it hidden"
He errs: how can the lovesick one conceal his love?
But how can the besotted conceal their love?
يملكcontrols المرءthe person قولهhis speech ولعمريand, by my life
يملك المرء قوله ولعمري
فيin الشؤناتthe states ليسdoes not يملكcontrol قلبهhis heart
في الشؤنات ليس يملك قلبه
A person can control his speech, yet, by my life,
One may control their words but indeed
In such states, he cannot control his heart.
No one can master the heart's affairs
فاتركso leave off اللومblame ياO خليcarefree one وخلand leave الthe
فاترك اللوم يا خلي وخل ال
عاشقlover الوالهdistraught with love الفوأدthe heart وربهand his Lord
عاشق الواله الفوأد وربه
So leave off blame, O carefree one, and leave the
Spare me your blame, my friend, and let
Lover, distraught of heart, alone with his Lord.
A lover rave, with a crazed heart and soul
