يا ايها الحادي اعد مغناه

فعسى النياق تؤمنا مغناه

O camel-driver, repeat his song;

perhaps the she-camels will lead us to his dwelling.

ذنبا له وجدا واقلق لبنا

والسر منا بالهوى معناه

[We melted] with longing for him; our heart was troubled,

and so was our inner secret, by his meaning through love.

يبدو فيخفق كل قلب ساكن

من كلنا اذ ينجلي بساه

He appears, and every still heart begins to beat,

among us all, when he shines forth [in his radiance].

ويغيب لكن لا يغيب وحقه

ما زال باصرة القلوب تراه

And he vanishes, yet does not vanish—by his sanctity:

the hearts' inner eye still sees him.

وحياته لولا جميل صفاته

ما حن منا مغرم اواه

By his life, were it not for his beautiful attributes,

no sighing lover among us would have yearned.

كل العيون ضياؤها انواره

كل القلوب حياتها مجلاه

The light of all eyes is his radiance;

the life of all hearts is his manifestation.

هل للاحبة والغرام ذريعة

دهرا لوصل حبالهم الاهو

Do the beloved ones and passion have any means

ever to join their cords, except him?

وسواهم هل يشفي اخي عليلهم

في الحادثات ومن يكون سواه

And can anyone besides them, my brother, heal their ailing one

amid calamities—and who could there be besides him?

طابت قلوب العاشقين بذكره

وبنعته وبوصفه وحلاه

The lovers' hearts grew glad through remembering him,

and through his attributes, his description, and his adornments.

هو روحهم محراب جند قلوبهم

وبذروة الاجلال ما اعلاه

He is their spirit, the prayer-niche of their hearts' army;

and at the summit of reverence, how exalted he is!

لم تصرف العشاق آه مقلقا

في حبه الا واقبل آه

No troubling 'ah' ever diverted the lovers

in loving him, without an 'ah' coming forth.

كادت تطير له القلوب وحقها

هو روحها سبحان من سواه

The hearts nearly flew to him—and rightly so;

he is their spirit. Glory to the One who fashioned him!

شغفت به الارواح في ملكوتها

وعليه اجلالا تجلى الله

The spirits were enraptured by him in their spiritual realm,

and upon him, in honor, Allah manifested Himself.
