ومنهمand among them منthose whose بسامراin Samarra خيامهمtheir tents
ومنهم من بسامرا خيامهم
وفيand in الغريal-Ghari ففيهمso in them عطرthe fragrance of الناديthe gathering
وفي الغري ففيهم عطر النادي
And among them are those whose tents are in Samarra,
Among them are those whose tents are in Samarra
and in al-Ghari; so in them lies the gathering's fragrance.
And among them is the fragrance of the club
ومنهمand among them منthose who إضاءتshone كربلاKarbala بهمthrough them
ومنهم من إضاءت كربلا بهم
وفضلهمand their bounty عمencompassed باديthe desert-dweller among الناسpeople والغاديand the morning traveler
وفضلهم عم بادي الناس والغادي
And among them are those through whom Karbala shone,
Among them are those who illuminated Karbala
and their bounty embraced both desert-dwellers and morning travelers.
Their virtues spread among settled and nomad
ومنهمand among them منthose who بطوسin Tus طوقواthey wreathed منناfavors
ومنهم من بطوس طوقوا مننا
طوقthe collar of الزمانTime وقدواand they severed وصلةthe bond of العاديthe aggressor
طوق الزمان وقدوا وصلة العادي
And among them are those in Tus who wreathed with favors
Among them are those from Tawus who wore
Time's collar, and severed the aggressor's bond.
The collar of time and lit the fires of tradition
وأصلهمand their origin منthose who ببطحاon the plain of يثربYathrib رفعواraised
وأصلهم من ببطحا يثرب رفعوا
منارa beacon هدىof guidance وفيهمand in them شرفthe honor of الواديthe valley
منار هدى وفيهم شرف الوادي
And their origin lies with those who, on Yathrib's plain, raised
Their origin is from Bat'ha, Yathrib, they raised
a beacon of guidance; and in them lies the valley's honor.
A minaret of guidance, honored in valley and desert
نعمexcellent are الفروعthe branches إلىtoward تلكthose الأصولroots نحتturned
نعم الفروع إلى تلك الأصول نحت
فطابso became fair عنوانهاtheir title بالسيدthrough the master الهاديthe guiding one
فطاب عنوانها بالسيد الهادي
Excellent are the branches that turned toward those roots;
What excellent branches to those great roots belong
so their title was graced by the guiding master.
Its title is pure through the Master Guide
جدa forefather عظيمgreat هوhe الأصلthe root العظيمgreat لكfor all… (split across lines)
جد عظيم هو الأصل العظيم لك

ل الكون من غائب في الخق أوبادي
A great forefather—he is the great root of all
A great grandfather, he is the great origin for you
the universe, whether hidden in creation or manifest.
Of all creation, absent yet ever present
والسادةand the masters الغرradiant أهلthe people of البيتthe House عترتهhis kindred
والسادة الغر أهل البيت عترته
عصابةa band منهfrom him حفتناsurrounded us بإرشادwith guidance
عصابة منه حفتنا بإرشاد
And the radiant masters, the People of the House, are his kindred—
And the Gharib Sayyids, the Prophet's family
a band sprung from him, surrounding us with guidance.
A party from him which has guided us with counsel
تسلسلواthey followed in succession فعلواso they rose مجداًglory ومنزلةًand rank
تسلسلوا فعلوا مجداً ومنزلةً
عظمىmost exalted بدينthrough faith وآباءand fathers وأجدادand forefathers
عظمى بدين وآباء وأجداد
They followed in succession, rising in glory and to a rank
They succeeded, achieving glory and great station
most exalted, through faith, fathers, and forefathers.
