وكوته أيدي الحادثات بنارها

A heart suffered from parting with loved ones,

A heart ached from parting with loved ones

And the hands of calamities seared it with their fire.

And their abode the hands of fate set aflame

لم يألف الدنيا وإن علقت به

لم يألف الدنيا وإن علقت به

إذا لا دوام لدورها وديارها

إذا لا دوام لدورها وديارها

It did not grow fond of the world, though the world clung to it;

It never accustomed itself to this world though attached

Thus, its houses and dwellings have no permanence.

For neither its cycles nor dwellings are lasting
