شيخي أمام الاولياء النجبا

سلالة الاعيان من اهل العبا

My shaykh is foremost among the noble saints,

My sheikh, the foremost among the noble saints

A scion of the eminent, from the People of the Cloak,

Of the lineage of chieftains from the people of generosity

السيد المهدي صمصام الوحا

السيد المهدي صمصام الوحا

والطاهر الاصلين أما وأبا

والطاهر الاصلين أما وأبا

Sayyid al-Mahdi, the swift, keen sword,

Al-Sayyid Al-Mahdi, fortifier of the desolate lands

And pure in both lineages, through mother and father.

And Al-Tahir, the one of pure ancestry, as a father and mother

شبل الرفاعي الحسيني النسب

شبل الرفاعي الحسيني النسب

سلطان أهل الله كشاف الكرب

سلطان أهل الله كشاف الكرب

The lion-cub of al-Rifa‘i, of Husayni lineage,

Shibl Al-Rifa'i Al-Husaini in lineage

Sultan of God's people, dispeller of distress.

Sultan of the people of God, dispeller of distress

انعم بابن قد أتى من خير أب

انعم بابن قد أتى من خير أب

وعنه أعلام المعالي نصبا

وعنه أعلام المعالي نصبا

How fine a son, sprung from the finest father!

Blessed with a son who came from a virtuous father

And on his behalf he raised the banners of excellence.

And about him the signs of sublime traits were erected

هذا الفتى الرواس فياض الهمم

هذا الفتى الرواس فياض الهمم

ذو المجد والقدر المعلى والشيم

ذو المجد والقدر المعلى والشيم

This young man, al-Rawwas, overflows with lofty resolve,

This noble youth, overflowing determination

Possessor of glory, exalted rank, and noble traits.

Possessor of glory, esteem and high moral fiber

ادعوه مرميا على باب الكرم

ادعوه مرميا على باب الكرم

وكم به نال المريد الاربا

وكم به نال المريد الاربا

I invoke him, cast down at the gate of generosity,

I call upon him, throwing myself at the door of generosity

And how often through him has the disciple attained his desire!

And how much the disciple attained through him of spiritual profit

قال له الحبيب لما انتخبا

قال له الحبيب لما انتخبا

في حضرة بالفضل اجرت سحبا

في حضرة بالفضل اجرت سحبا

The Beloved said to him when he was chosen,

The Beloved said to him when he was chosen

In a presence that sent clouds flowing with grace,

In the presence of one excelled in merit, the drawing of lots occurred

وقد رأى من التجلي مشعبا

وقد رأى من التجلي مشعبا

أهلا وسهلا يا غريب الغربا

أهلا وسهلا يا غريب الغربا

And he had seen an offshoot of divine manifestation:

And he saw from the divine manifestations, a path

“Welcome, welcome, O Stranger of Strangers!”

Welcome, welcome O stranger of strangers

هذا غريب القوم في طور الولا

هذا غريب القوم في طور الولا

على الألى اهل البراهين علا

على الألى اهل البراهين علا

This is the stranger of the folk, in the realm of sainthood;

This is the stranger of the tribe at the mount of divine proximity

He rose above those endowed with proofs.

Upon the Most High, the people of proof ascended

ذا لقب ممن رقى الى العلا

ذا لقب ممن رقى الى العلا

أعظم به شأنا سما ولقبا

أعظم به شأنا سما ولقبا

This is a title from one who ascended to the heights;

With a title from one who rose to the Most Exalted

How great he is—so lofty in stature and title!

Made greater in esteem and name, ascending and title

الى غريب الغرباء ننتمي

الى غريب الغرباء ننتمي

دهرا وفي الاعتاب منه نرتمي

دهرا وفي الاعتاب منه نرتمي

To the Stranger of Strangers we belong,

To the stranger of strangers we belong

For all time, and at his thresholds we cast ourselves down.

For ages and at his threshold we fling ourselves

بجده شيخ العريجا نحتمي

بجده شيخ العريجا نحتمي

ولم تخف من الزمان التعبا

ولم تخف من الزمان التعبا

Through his forefather, the shaykh of al-‘Urayja, we seek refuge,

In his ancestor, the sheikh of Al-Areeja we take refuge

And you did not fear the hardship of time.

And you did not fear the passage of time's fatigue

يال الرفاعي يا صدور الاوليا

يال الرفاعي يا صدور الاوليا

يا من ورثتم سرحال الاوصيا

يا من ورثتم سرحال الاوصيا

O family of al-Rifa‘i, O leaders of the saints,

Oh house of Al-Rifa'i, oh breasts of the saints

O you who inherited the secret of the successors’ spiritual state,

Oh you who inherited the cloak of the successors

بجدكم طه ختام الانبيا

بجدكم طه ختام الانبيا

كونوا لنا الى النبي سببا

كونوا لنا الى النبي سببا

By your forefather Ta-Ha, the seal of the prophets,

Through your ancestor Taha, Seal of the Prophets

Be for us a means of reaching the Prophet.

Be for us a means to the Prophet

عليه صلى الله ما لاح القمر

عليه صلى الله ما لاح القمر

وما تلى التالون ما زاغ البصر

وما تلى التالون ما زاغ البصر

May God bless him as long as the moon shines,

Upon him blessings of God for as long as the moon shines

And as long as reciters recite “The sight did not swerve,”

And for as long as the reciters alternate and the eyesight wanders

وآله الاطهار والصحب الغرر

وآله الاطهار والصحب الغرر

وابن الرفاعي وغريب الغربا

وابن الرفاعي وغريب الغربا

And his pure family and radiant companions,

And his pure Household and his companions the gems

And the son of al-Rifa‘i and the Stranger of Strangers.
