برواق مصباح الهدى غوث الورى

If you pass through the broad plain of Umm Ubayda,

Should I pass by Umm Ubaydah’s plain,

at the portico of the lamp of guidance, the succor of humankind,

By Lamp of Guidance’ sanctuary, help of mortals,

فاستجل انوار الغيوب مراقبا

فاستجل انوار الغيوب مراقبا

بحمى على اعتابه اسد الشرى

بحمى على اعتابه اسد الشرى

then behold the lights of the unseen, keeping watch,

Then let lights of mystic realms shine forth watching,

in a sanctuary at whose thresholds are the lions of al-Shara.

With zeal at his threshold, lion of enemies.

مرغ جبينك في ثراه ولا تخف

مرغ جبينك في ثراه ولا تخف

وانشق عبير المسك من ذاك الثرى

وانشق عبير المسك من ذاك الثرى

Rub your brow in his soil, and do not fear,

Rub your brow in his dust and fear not,

and inhale the fragrance of musk from that soil.

And let scent of musk burst from that dust.

وابهج بظل ابي العريجا آمنا

وابهج بظل ابي العريجا آمنا

وابشر فكل الصيد في جوف القرا

وابشر فكل الصيد في جوف القرا

And rejoice, safe in the shade of Abu al-Urayja,

Rejoice in shade of my father al-‘Urjā, secure,

and take heart, for all the game is in the belly of the wild ass [probable reading].

And be glad, for all game is in breast of jar.
