ليس التصوف بالخرق

أو بالتوهم والعلق

أو بالتوهم والعلق

Sufism does not lie in rags,

Sufism is not about wearing rags,

or in delusion and attachments,

Or delusions and obsession,

أو بالتعالي والجفا

أو بالتعالي والجفا

من قال هذا ما صدق

من قال هذا ما صدق

or in arrogance and harshness.

Or arrogance and aloofness.

Whoever said this did not speak the truth.

Whoever claims this is untrue.

إن التصوف يا فتى

إن التصوف يا فتى

سر على القلب انتسق

سر على القلب انتسق

Indeed, Sufism, O young man,

Sufism, my boy,

is a secret arrayed upon the heart;

Is a secret that seeps into the heart,

ويئج من مكنونه

ويئج من مكنونه

حرق يمازجها قلق

حرق يمازجها قلق

and from its hidden depths blaze

And emerges from its depths

burning pangs mingled with unrest.

As a burning, mixed with anxiety.
