The people of love are in God,

The people of love are with God

in speech and spiritual state.

In word and state

والْمُدَّعِين قالَوا

والْمُدَّعِين قالَوا

مِنَ الْمُحَالْ

مِنَ الْمُحَالْ

And the pretenders said:

And the pretenders said

'That is impossible.'

لاَهْلِ الهوى دَلاَيلْ

لاَهْلِ الهوى دَلاَيلْ

حِفْظُ الأصول

The people of love have signs:

For the people of love there are signs

upholding the principles.

Preserving the principles

ومَنْ سَمِعْنِي يَفْهَم

ومَنْ سَمِعْنِي يَفْهَم

شَيْئاً أقُولْ

شَيْئاً أقُولْ

And whoever has heard me understands

And whoever hears me understands

something I say.

الْحَقُّ مِنْ صِفاتُوا

الْحَقُّ مِنْ صِفاتُوا

ألاَّ يَحُولْ

ألاَّ يَحُولْ

One of the Real’s attributes

The truth of His attributes

is that He does not change.

طُوبَى لِمَنْ فَهِم

طُوبَى لِمَنْ فَهِم

ومَنْ عَقَل

ومَنْ عَقَل

Blessed is whoever has understood,

Blessed is he who understands

and whoever has comprehended,

And is reasonable

ومَنْ بِأمْرِ مَوْلاهْ

ومَنْ بِأمْرِ مَوْلاهْ

قالْ وفَعَل

قالْ وفَعَل

and whoever, at his Master’s command,

And who says and does

has spoken and acted.

According to his Master's command

الغِي مِنَ الْحَوَادِثْ

الغِي مِنَ الْحَوَادِثْ

واصْفِي وُدَّكْ

واصْفِي وُدَّكْ

Turn away from created things,

Be absent from events

and purify your love,

And purify your love

واعْمَلْ عَلَى الإراده

واعْمَلْ عَلَى الإراده

والْمُمْ وِرْدَك

والْمُمْ وِرْدَك

and act with resolve,

And act according to the will

and gather up your litany.

And your accustomed path

تَنَال مِن مُرَادَك

تَنَال مِن مُرَادَك

ومِنْ قَصِيدَك

ومِنْ قَصِيدَك

You will attain some of what you desire,

You will attain your desire

and of what you seek,

And your poem

وتَبْلُغِ الْمُنَى

وتَبْلُغِ الْمُنَى

والإتِّصَالْ

والإتِّصَالْ

and attain your wishes

And reach the goal

and union.

And connection

ويَكُون إِتِّصَالكْ

ويَكُون إِتِّصَالكْ

دونَ انْفِصَالْ

دونَ انْفِصَالْ

And your union will be

And your connection will be

without separation.

Without separation

خَلَوْت مَعْ حَبِيبي

خَلَوْت مَعْ حَبِيبي

لَيْلاَ وَحْدِي

لَيْلاَ وَحْدِي

I was alone with my Beloved,

I was alone with my beloved

at night, by myself;

At night, alone

وانْتَفِتَ الخواطرْ

وانْتَفِتَ الخواطرْ

وَطَابَ وِرْدِي

وَطَابَ وِرْدِي

and passing thoughts vanished,

Thoughts disappeared

and my litany grew sweet.

And my bouquet was fragrant

ونِلْتُ مِنْ مُرادِي

ونِلْتُ مِنْ مُرادِي

ومِنْ قَصْدِي

ومِنْ قَصْدِي

And I attained something of my desire

And I attained my desire

and of my aim.

And my intention

وتُهْتُ في بِحَارْ

وتُهْتُ في بِحَارْ

وفي سُؤال

وفي سُؤال

And I was lost in seas

And I became immersed in oceans

and in questioning.

And in questioning

وقَد سُقِيتْ أكواس

وقَد سُقِيتْ أكواس

ما لَها مِثالْ

ما لَها مِثالْ

And indeed I was given cups to drink

And I was given goblets

that have no equal,

That have no equal

من خمرةِ قديمهْ

من خمرةِ قديمهْ

يَطِيبُ سُكْرِي

يَطِيبُ سُكْرِي

of ancient wine;

Of an ancient wine

my intoxication grows sweet.

That makes my intoxication pleasant

ومَنْ شَرِبْ شَرابي

ومَنْ شَرِبْ شَرابي

يَفْهَمْ سِرِّي

يَفْهَمْ سِرِّي

And whoever drinks my drink

And whoever drinks my drink

understands my secret.

الْحَقُّ مِنْ صِفاتُوا

الْحَقُّ مِنْ صِفاتُوا

كَمَا تَدْرِي

كَمَا تَدْرِي

Among the Real’s attributes:

The truth of His attributes

as you know,

As you know

هُوَ غايَةُ الْمُنَى

هُوَ غايَةُ الْمُنَى

مُعْطِي الكمال

مُعْطِي الكمال

He is the ultimate goal of all wishes,

He is the utmost goal

the giver of perfection.

Granter of perfection

وهْوَ الْكَرِيمْ تَعالَى

وهْوَ الْكَرِيمْ تَعالَى

مالُوا مِثالْ

مالُوا مِثالْ

And He is the Generous One—exalted is He—

And He is the Generous, Exalted

He has no equal.

With no equal

خَلَقْنِي مِنْ لاَ شَيْ

خَلَقْنِي مِنْ لاَ شَيْ

وَصَوَّرْنِي

وَصَوَّرْنِي

He created me from nothing,

He created me from nothing

and fashioned me.

And formed me

شَرَّفْنِي بخطابوا

شَرَّفْنِي بخطابوا

وكَرَّمْنِي

وكَرَّمْنِي

He honored me with His speech,

Honored me with His words

and ennobled me.

And valued me

سُبْحَانَهُ تَعالَى

سُبْحَانَهُ تَعالَى

وعَفَا عَنِّي

وعَفَا عَنِّي

Glory be to Him—exalted is He—

Glory be to Him, the Exalted

and He pardoned me.

And He forgave me

نَزَّهْنِي وقالْ

نَزَّهْنِي وقالْ

وَاصِلْ تَنالْ

وَاصِلْ تَنالْ

He purified me and said:

Purified me and said

'Persevere, and you will attain.'

Continue, you will attain

اللهُ ذُو الْجَلاَل

اللهُ ذُو الْجَلاَل

وذُو الْكمال

وذُو الْكمال

God is the possessor of majesty

God possesses majesty

and the possessor of perfection.
